Indian authorities have taken new measures to protect the interests of local sugar producers. As reported by Reuters, the government of India increased import duty from 40% to 50%. According to the press service of the Ministry of agriculture of the country, this measure will allow to limit the flow of cheap sugar from abroad.

The current domestic sugar prices in the country are much higher foreign products. Importers profitable to import sugar even at a duty of 40%. The newly imposed duties relate to white sugar and raw sugar.
