In 2018, India could generate 100 million tons of wheat. This forecast was made by the Indian experts, basing on the data about the weather conditions in the period of sowing, minimal risk of spreading pests and forecasts of mild rainy weather in January in the ripening period.

While the official forecast of production is at the level of 97,5 million tons, which is below the yield 2017 – 98,38 million tons.

India after a drought in 2015 and 2016, was forced to import large volumes of wheat. Import continued in 2017. Currently the government prepares to introduce prohibitive duties on import of wheat.
