The Rosselkhoznadzor on June 4 imposes temporary restrictions on import to Russia of poultry meat, poultry products and live birds and hatching eggs from two States of India in connection with the identification there are foci of highly pathogenic avian influenza. This is stated in the message Department.

Restrictions imposed in respect of Karnataka and odisha and do not relate to goods subject to processing, which ensures the destruction of the virus. At the same time, the Rosselkhoznadzor imposed a ban on the import of equipment for keeping, slaughter and butchering of birds used. The Ministry also imposed a ban on transit through the territory of the Russian Federation of live poultry from these States.

Avian influenza is a highly contagious viral disease that affects the organs of digestion, respiration and leads to death of birds. Carriers usually are wild birds. Most strains of this disease to humans is not dangerous.
