Drought-affected farmers of Lithuania cannot expect to receive from the EU financial compensation for losses incurred. About it on Monday was declared to journalists by the Minister of agriculture of the Republic of Giedrius Surplys.
According to him, Brussels has been our consistent position: if it was possible to insure against an event, but this is not done, the compensation will be. "The latest information given the fact that the process involved Germany, remains the same," - said the head of the Ministry of the Baltic Republic Agency Elta. "The Commission sticks to its position: for an insured event, compensation will not be", - he said.
Since 2012, in Lithuania none of the farmers were not insured against damage due to drought. According to them, it is expensive, and the system of damages is imperfect and not the fact that will be scheduled some payments.
All that against the background of losses from drought, you can count the Lithuanian farmers, this softening of the EU requirements in terms of yield. Farmers receiving financial payments for the agricultural community programmes are required to achieve the specified yields. The drought had made their achievement unrealistic. According to estimates of the Ministry of agriculture, due to adverse weather in Lithuania this summer, lost about a third of the crop.
