The reduction in size of the average check takes place in the summer each year, due to the fact that a growing number of "small" purchases, said in an interview with the correspondent of IA REGNUM on Monday, August 20, the General Director of the trade network "Real" Alexander Myshinsky, commenting on the data of the holding "ROMIR" on the decrease in the average check of Russians in July 2018 to two-year low.

As previously reported, according to "ROMIR", the average check of the population of Russia in one trip to the store in July fell by 3.3% compared with June and amounted to 496 rubles. The average check size declined for the fourth consecutive month and reached the level of spring 2016.

This decrease happens every year. In June, the average check is less than in may, in July — less than in June, in August — even less. Only at the end of the last month of summer, the situation is beginning to stabilize.

The reasons are simple: total the number of checks remains the same, and the proportion of "small" purchases is growing. People come into the store for a minute to buy water or ice cream. While cheques are not getting bigger because some people are on vacation. Hence the reduction in average.

If to analyze the situation without considering the seasonal effect, we can say that in recent months the average purchase size is increasing, but barely noticeable. Money from people is no longer. They are increasingly buying not one but multiple stores using promotions and discounts.
