He stressed that rape in the region is sown for the first time last year, but he quickly earned the respect.

"It is not surprising that this year the area under winter rape significantly expanded. The plan area was to be a little more than 10 thousand hectares. But farmers in the region have surpassed these figures, sowing of 11.8 thousand hectares of this crop, accounting for 55% of the index last year," said Razin.

According to him, winter rapeseed excelled in the fields of the Moscow region and gave a good yield this year.

"About 25 quintals per hectare – the result of a crop of winter oilseed rape. With spring rape, for comparison, get about 17-18 quintals per hectare. Experience planting winter canola suburban farmers acknowledged the positive," added the Minister.

He called the leaders in sowing of rapeseed of the city district Kolomna, Silver Ponds, Odintsovo, and Kashira Zaraisk.

"The best performance on planting of canola at the Lukhovitsy. They sowed 4.3 thousand hectares of this crop. Silver Ponds – 1.9 thousand hectares, Odintsovo– a little more than 1 thousand hectares," said Razin.

Originally canola was grown mainly for feeding purposes because of its high content of protein it is perfect as fodder for cattle. Today, their uses are much more. Rapeseed oil is used in the chemical and food industries for the production of biofuels.
