Today, the EC considers as a problem is that four-fifths of the 200 million euros of subsidies in Latvia are distributed among 15% of all farms. The size of the largest grants in excess of 1 million euros. This puts medium-sized and small farms at a disadvantage, says the EC. In Latvia overboard subsidies left 60,000 people employed in the industry. The European numbers are slightly better — 80% of the grants distributed between 20% of large farms.

The Commission proposes to deprive of grants of all who cultivate the land on an area of over 300 hectares. In addition, to set a ceiling of 100,000 euros, and the amount of one installment shall not exceed 60 000.

In Latvia these restrictions will affect the 323 households, only 0.6% of the total. However, the Ministry of agriculture of Latvia does not support the idea of the EC as it affects the interests of the largest manufacturers. A compromise, but the opinion of the Latvian Ministry of agriculture, could become another financing ceiling of $ 150 000 euros per farm.
