The fight against poaching of the prey of salmon in the far East should be strengthened. This was stated by Vice Prime Minister - Plenipotentiary representative of RF President in the far Eastern Federal district (FEFD) Yuri Trutnev at a meeting on the conservation of populations of Kamchatka wild salmon in the ozernovskiy village on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

The representative of the border service at the meeting reported that poachers continue to use illegal drift-nets on the migration routes of salmon in the North Kuriles.

"So little work today on the conservation of biological resources goes, just keep fouling. That means we need sufficient forces to concentrate in this area. Go to for many years to remember. With your leadership on this topic let's talk" - said Deputy Prime Minister.

As explained in the press service of the Embassy, a full-scale driftnet fishing for salmon has been averted because of the adoption of the relevant law. However, the border guards annually find in the sea of an illegal network that overlap the red fish way to spawn in Kamchatkan rivers. This year such cases was also recorded.

The fishing industry is one of the leading sectors in the economy of the Kamchatka region. In 2019, the region accounted for over 31% of the national catch and 45% of the catch in the far Eastern basin.
