Wheat imports to Thailand rose sharply after the abolition of the 27% import duty in 2014, according to News Agency Zerno on-Line , citing The Nation.

In 2014, Thailand imported 593 thousand tons of wheat, in 2015 this figure increased to 3.46 million tons. In the current year the volume of import of wheat could rise to 5 million tons.

The main importers of wheat were manufacturers of feed (Betagro, hat Yai Corporation, Sun United Feed and Flour Mill, and one flour - Bangkok Producer Merchandising, a subsidiary of CP Group.

The growth of grain imports led to lower prices and cheaper local corn and tapioca. As a result, the incomes of Thai farmers has decreased.
