Since the beginning of the season 2016/2017 Japan imported of 227.2 thousand tons of Russian corn, which is 17.5 times greater than the total 2015/2016 – 13 thousand tons. Japan for the period from July to December 2016 imported from Russia 5.6 thousand tons of wheat and 12.6 thousand tons of barley, informed the press-service of Rosselkhoznadzor.

Japan, with a population of about 127.2 mln people (10th largest in the world), is one of the largest importers of grain in the world. The forecast of grain imports over 22 million tonnes (40% of the import forecast for all States East Asia 55 mln tons), including wheat, 5.8 mln tons, corn – about 15 million tons, barley – 1.1 mln tonnes. Exports from Russia in 2015/2016 made up: wheat – 9.8 thousand tons of corn, 13 thousand tons, barley – 43,8 thousand tons.
