The collapse of the pound occurred in November last year after the country's Central Bank announced the transition to a floating exchange rate. Domestic consumption of corn has slowed because of rising prices and the resulting weakening of demand for this crop from the livestock and poultry sectors as well as aquaculture sector.

Since the beginning of the season to 28 February imports amounted to 824,82 thousand tons, including from Ukraine – 608,358 thousand tons, from USA – 89,67 kt, from Bulgaria – 20,524 thousand.

According to the forecasts of FAS USDA, in the next season (October-September) Egypt imports 8.6 million MT of corn, as in the current season.
