The national assessment was reduced mainly at the expense of Spain, where the grain has been particularly vulnerable to frosts in the spring and drought in summer. The grain harvest in the third key centre-producer in the EU, according to the agriculture Ministry, could fall to 4.9 million tons, against 9.29 million tons last year.

In turn, excessive soil moisture due to precipitation was the reason for concern and delays of the harvesting campaign in the South-West of Germany. Further precipitation can be very detrimental to grain quality.

At the same time, in some other countries, particularly in France and Poland is expected to increase harvest. Thus, in France today removed 60-65% of the sown area, while total production is expected to reach 9.5 million tons, higher than both last season (8,2) million tons, and the estimates of the Ministry of agriculture of the country, sounded a month the wound (9.3 million tons).

Harvesting was suspended due to rain in Poland, however, the overall production prospects look very encouraging and the results of harvesting the crop may exceed last year's figure by 35% to 850 thousand tons.
