Qatar opened a new deep-sea port on behalf of Hamad South of Doha for the reception of large vessels in the context of a ban on the entry of Qatari ships to ports in neighboring Gulf countries, announced on 6 September, the portal RIA Novosti.

"The port strike on any restrictions imposed on our economy. We will not abandon our hopes and ambitions"
, — said at the official ceremony of opening of the port the Minister of transport and communications of Qatar Jassim bin safe al-sulaiti.

According to him, the area of the new sea Harbor is more than 25 km2. The port is able to accommodate 7.5 million container ships a year. The width of the approach channel is 700 m and depth – 17 m.

As noted by representatives of the Qatari authorities, the middle East's largest port will allow Qatar to bring goods directly from other countries, including China and the Sultanate of Oman, instead of using transit port of Jebel Ali in Dubai.
