"According to our forecasts, already 2020/21 MG volumes of import of sunflower oil may exceed 3 million tons per year and in the long term (to 2022/23 MG) increase to 3.5 million tons", - said the speaker.

Traditionally, main volumes of this kind of products India imports from Ukraine, Russia and Argentina. Thus at the end of the 2018/19 MG the share of deliveries of Ukrainian oil in the total imports amounted to 90%.

"In the current 2019/20 MG we expect to reduce the supply of sunflower oil of Ukrainian production by 24% to 66% due to increasing competition, especially from Russia, the share of deliveries which may increase to 25% versus only 4% a year earlier, and from Argentina to 9% (6%). So, in the current season Ukraine can supply to the Indian market with 1.7 million tons of sunflower oil against 2.2 million tons in the end of the 2018/19 MG. In turn, Russia will significantly increase the supply of this product in 2019/20 MG to about 650 thousand tons against only 100 thousand tons of oil last season," added the expert.

If we talk about the import of sunflower oil in the last few months, India in September this year has reduced purchases to a minimum this year – 126,8 thousand tonnes of 230 thousand tonnes in August against the backdrop of high oil reserves in the country, which in September was estimated at 152 tons.
