Russian farmers ask protection against foreign rice producers
RZS wants cancellation of preferences on rice and increase in wheat export quota by country.

The Russian grain union (RZS) within two weeks will send to the governmental commission on
protective measures an official proposal about cancellation of import preferences on rice for a number of Asian countries.
Within joining of Russia to the WTO the customs import duty on rice was lowered from 120 to 45
Euros per a ton. Thus the customs duty for developing countries is established at preferential level and for some countries it is lowered to zero.
RZS repeatedly warned about need of support for rice producers in the WTO conditions,
however it didn't appeal to the governmental commission.
