USA: Sugar-For-Ethanol plan fails, sugar surplus presses prices
According to Reuters news agency, the volumes of sugar offered by the Department of Agriculture of the USA within the plan on decrease in surplus, hasn't sparked interest of processors, which had received preferential prices.

According to the statement of the US government, only 7% of sugar offered within the Sugar for
Ethanol plan were sold to processors at a loss in 3 million USD at the USDA
account. According to the USDA, costs of transportation, existing stocks of
sugar and other factors considerably reduced interest of processors.
Low demand for raw materials can be the first sign that the governmental plan
doesn't find a response in the biofuel industry, which representatives are now
aimed at corn as the main raw material.
