The state food and veterinary service of Lithuania recorded outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in large pig enterprise in the country. About it is spoken in the message of Federal service of veterinary and phytosanitary supervision of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor).

According to the data provided by the veterinary service of Lithuania at the complex currently contains about 20 thousand heads of pigs.

Rosselkhoznadzor has not been kept informed about the location and name of the company, has explained ITAR-TASS assistant to the head of the service Alexei Alekseenko.

Russia is 7 April 2014 banned the import of all kinds of finished meat products from Lithuania in connection with the epidemic of African swine fever.

African swine fever is not a threat to humans, but extremely dangerous for wild and domestic pigs. The disease is rapidly spreading among animals and causes serious damage to agriculture and the economy as a whole.
