The Polish government has again turned for help to the European Commission due to the introduction of Russia restrictions on the import of vegetables and fruit. This is reported by RIA "Novosti", "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" and other editions, citing the Ministry of agriculture and rural development of Poland.

The first request to compensate for the losses due to the Russian embargo, the head of the Ministry of agriculture of Poland Marek Sawicki sent to commissioners even last week. In the new address, the Minister asked them to hold an urgent meeting. As noted by Savitsky, "the total losses to Polish fruit and vegetable sector can be about 500 million Euro.

Poland hopes that "in the spirit of European solidarity will take appropriate measures to limit the negative effects of the Russian embargo for the Polish and other producers of vegetables and fruits in the European Union".

According to the Federal customs service of the Russian Federation, import vegetables from Poland last year amounted to almost USD 250 million, which accounts for 8.7% of the total import to Russia in value terms; fruit - 497 million, or 7.8 percent of total imports. The share of vegetables and fruits in the Polish export to Russia amounts to about 9 percent.

The Rosselkhoznadzor from the 1st of August banned the import to Russia of almost all fruit and vegetables from Poland, including apples, pears, cherry, cherries, peaches, plums and cabbage. It is connected with the violation of the Polish party certification requirements, as well as identifying products of quarantine objects. The Agency warned of the possibility of conducting such a ban in spring.
