Drop-down sanctions import fish in Russia reimbursed the Faroe Islands and Greenland. This was reported in the North-West customs Directorate (nwta) of the Federal customs service (FCS), which is the largest port in Russia - the Big port of St. Petersburg.

"Since the introduction of sanctions turnover of fish products in the region with the customs activity has not significantly decreased. The current ban on the importation does not apply to the goods, the country of origin which are the Faroe Islands or Greenland", - said the first Deputy chief of the Baltic customs Sergey Ermakov.

According to the nwta, 2013 through the Baltic customs in Russia imported about 600 thousand tons of products fishery. In January-August 2014 already put about 300 thousand tons of fish, fish products and seafood.

Russia introduced on August 7, the package of measures on sanctions the United States, Australia, Canada, European Union and Norway. Retaliatory sanctions constitute a prohibition for a period of one year for import to Russia from these countries key food groups, including fresh fish.

The Russian government intends to replace the drop down because of the sanctions amount of food and to prevent shortages and rising prices by increasing the exchange of goods not placed under a restriction countries. To do this on August 8, Russia held talks with representatives of China, Turkey, Serbia, Egypt, Mauritius, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Paraguay, Guatemala, Morocco, Kenya, Argentina, Lebanon, the Faroe Islands, Tunisia, India and Pakistan about the opening or expansion of the supply of meat, milk, vegetables, fruits, fish and seafood.
