The Danish Minister of food, agriculture and fisheries Dan Jorgensen sent a letter to the European Commissioner for agriculture, which called on the EU to create a temporary support system of the pig industry, which will allow them to store unsold in the Russian contracti meat. Experts sectoral Council on agriculture and food Denmark estimate that the Russian ban on the import of their products will cause this year's damage to 4 billion crowns ($678 million).

"Russians tend to buy a lot of pork, and now because of the sanctions Danish producers cannot sell their products or are forced to sell at dumping prices. So we need a pause in the market as long as the situation does not change, or manufacturers will not find other markets for their goods", - emphasizes Jorgensen.

The Minister says that it is an exceptional situation, and the proposed scheme will be valid for only six months.

According to him, in the long run, the pig must be able to maintain stability in such situations, as the Russian sanctions, and support system swine must be combined with efforts to open new markets where they could sell their products.

As previously reported by TASS, in the last months of the purchase price in Danish pork fell sharply. Now farmers are 9,4 CZK ($1,6) per kilogram of meat compared with 11.9 crowns ($2,03) a year ago.

According to statistics Denmark, the Danish export of pork to Russia last year amounted to 130, 8mm thousand tons more than $ 2 billion kroons. Russia is the fifth buyer Danish pork on the volume of purchased meat.
