Five agricultural economy of the Novgorod region for the first time recognized certified centers of seed potatoes, and cereals. On Thursday at the government meeting area farmers presented supporting documents, reports correspondent. TASS.

As noted by the Governor of the region Sergey Mitin, Novgorod farms receive "the mark of quality" in the seed industry for the first time in 20 years. "Agriculture rises to another, more advanced stage of development. We get our own highly efficient production of seeds, which should reduce production costs, improve quality and improve efficiency of work", - he said.

Local potato-growing companies will provide their products not only themselves but also other agricultural businesses in the region. Farmers from Novgorod and Borovichi areas grew more than 1,000 tons of seed potatoes of high quality which will last for the planting of more than 300 hectares

According to experts, the subject of farming such seeds can yield 400-500 tons of tubers per hectare with an average yield of around 250 kilograms per hectare.

Previously the main part of the seed potatoes in the Novgorod region bought abroad.

According to the regional Department of agriculture and food, agriculture, recognized seed centres in 2015 will receive state subsidies equal to the price reduction on seed potatoes compared to the average cost of planting material, which will be on the market.

This year Novgorod peasant and farm raised 317 thousand tons of potatoes.
