General Directorate of land and phytosanitary surveillance in the city of Sevastopol has imposed a quarantine phytosanitary zone on agricultural land, owned by LLC "Agrofirma "Zolotaya Balka" in Balaklava district of the city., the Agency reports.

The reason for the introduction of quarantine phytosanitary zone was the identification of the quarantine pest "phylloxera", more often called grape aphids. Harmful insect was found in the vineyards of the first branch of the "Golden beams". Grape aphids were infected about a hectare grape variety "Muscat Hamburg". Only the agricultural company "Zolotaya Balka" busy 1400 hectares in Balaklava district of Sevastopol where they cultivate technical and table varieties. Phylloxera (Viteus viti foliae) - aphids are greenish-yellow color, which damages the roots and leaves of grapes. The aphid has a small size and barely visible to the naked eye. In its development the phylloxera exists in several forms: root, leaf and winged. The birthplace of the harmful insect is North America. Main vector of the pest are karenanya grapes, especially grafted taken from infected areas.
