Acreage in the Primorsky region in 2016 will increase by 30 thousand hectares, or 7.3% compared to the year 2015. Most new areas will be planted with corn and soybeans, said TASS in the Department of agriculture and food of the regional administration.


"In 2016 it is planned to increase cultivation area of 30 hectares. the Total area under crops this year will amount to 450 thousand hectares (in 2015 - about 420 thousand hectares - approx. TASS). The main crops in the new areas will be corn and soybeans", - reported in Department.


Due early spring, the agricultural season this year in Primorye started almost two weeks earlier than usual.

"Traditionally, farmers begin preparing for spring planting in early April. This year the field work started earlier (in mid-March - approx. TASS). This is because in the Central areas of the region have established a constant positive temperature", - said the Director of the Department Denis Bochkarev.
 

According to him, in Primorye for the sowing throughout the planned area created an adequate supply of fuel, fertilizers and seeds.

Over the past five years the area of crops in Primorsky Krai increased by 109 thousand hectares, or 34%. The average annual growth of acreage - not less than 20 thousand hectares, 200 thousand hectares of agricultural land are not involved in trafficking.

According to regional agricultural programme by 2020 it is planned to increase acreage up to 532 thousand hectares.
