Vladimir Putin signed the Federal law aimed at supporting the wine industry of Crimea, which it prolongs for a transition period after joining the Peninsula to Russia.
Crimean winemakers had the opportunity until January 1, 2018 to produce a liqueur wine with an ethyl alcohol content of 12.5% to 22% of the finished product, whereas under the current legislation of the Russian Federation fortress liqueur wines should be in the range of 15% to 22%.
Introduced by the law changes are designed to increase production volumes in the Crimea wine products with protected geographical indication and protected designation of origin of the varieties or mixture of varieties of grapes grown exclusively on the Peninsula.
