In the framework implemented in the Orenburg region sub-programme land Reclamation and increasing the productivity of reclaimed lands for sustainable and effective development of agroindustrial complex" for 2013 – 2020 years, Ilek district opened the first phase of the reconstructed section of the irrigation system with an area of 240 hectares, said RIA Novosti the representative of the press service of the regional government.

"In the early 90-ies in the Orenburg region watering crops produced on the area of 78,8 thousand hectares. Today is used by only 14 thousand hectares of irrigated land. Orenburg region Governor Yuri Berg has set the task on development of irrigated agriculture and named her one of the strategic for agribusiness in the region. Currently the irrigated area in only one Ilek area is 300 hectares. To a three-year term under the irrigated land here will be allotted 2830 hectares", — said the source.He recalled that last year the region was put into operation 250 hectares of reclaimed land.

 

"The development of irrigated agriculture is one of the strategic objectives for agriculture in the region. This year on reconstruction and building of meliorative systems in the Orenburg region will receive 6.8 million rubles. Thus, the area of irrigated land will expand by 375 acres, and by 2020 we plan to increase it to seven thousand hectares", — cited the press service quoted the head of the region Yuri Berg.
