Among the plants grown in the National Institute of research of tropical tubers, fruits and vegetables of the Central province of Villa Clara, are popular on the island of bananas and root vegetables - Yucca, Malanga, sweet potato. In the Cuban fields already harvested the first crop of specially derived low-growing bananas and Yucca. These crops are easier to tolerate the effects of cyclones and powerful winds. In the case of sweet potato obtained seeds which do not need to constantly water. The moisture from the rain enough to get to 10 tons of sweet root crop per hectare. In addition to the Cuban breeders have to breed new variety of sweet potato with high content of vitamin A.

"Biofabrika" National Institute of research of tropical fruits, tubers and vegetables annually receives up to 50 thousand seedlings of new varieties of plants in accordance with the requirements of agricultural production and the soil characteristics.
