African swine fever (ASF) were found on the largest island of Estonia, Saaremaa, destruction shall be to three thousand animals. This was announced by the Estonian Raadio 4 with reference to the Veterinary Department of the country.

Local authorities and the government with the support of EU funds will carry out all sanitary cordon and maintenance work that will require serious resources. The complexity adds to the fact that the carcasses of destroyed animals for disposal will have to be transported from the island to the mainland to the plant for processing biowaste.

Experts are trying to establish the cause of African swine fever on the island.
