In 2016, field work continued on the development of industrial horticulture. As noted by the acting Minister of agriculture, Natalia Shevtsova, this industry plays a significant role in solving problems of import substitution. Plan bookmarks for this year was 100 hectares. It was planted about 240 hectares of orchards and berry fields. Thus, from the beginning of the development of the industry in 2013, the total area of perennial fruit and berry plantations in the region is nearly 600 hectares. Among them, the basic share falls on Apple orchards (over 80%), the remaining area is occupied berries, pear orchards as well as strawberries.

This year in the first industrial garden area, laid by the peasant farm "Kalina" in Chernyakhovsk city district, began collecting the first industrial harvest of apples – 97 tons. Total gross harvest in the region amounted to about 140 tons, berries closed and open ground – almost 100 tons.

KFKH Kalina also inaugurates large facility for storage of agricultural products. The complex is designed for the storage of grain crops, vegetables and fruit – apples and includes the sector of pre-sale preparation of agricultural products. Large-scale investment project aimed at increasing production of vegetables and grain, was approved by the Council to improve the investment climate.
