The tradition of holding this festival was born from residents of the Eastern foothills of the valley of San Fernando, which has always placed the cultivation of watermelons much attention.

The organizers have provided all types of themed entertainment, from sports to gastronomy. Guests competed for the fastest time riding on a water-melon crusts and who then spits out watermelon seeds. The festival participants have used watermelon rinds as skiing and seeds are turned into shells for the competition for the longest spit. The festival also was refreshing watermelon juice and swim in the watermelon pulp.
