Production of greenhouse vegetables showed the highest growth in agriculture of the Stavropol territory over the last five years. The production of greenhouse vegetables has grown three times, to 65.3 thousand tons, has informed on Wednesday to journalists by the Minister of agriculture of the region Vladimir Sitnikov.

"The biggest increase in five years - three times is shown for the production of greenhouse vegetables. We have repeatedly talked about serious plans for the future. The challenge is to reach [the area of greenhouses] 300 hectares by 2020, to the production of more than 100 thousand tons and become the absolute leaders in the production of greenhouse vegetables in Russia", - he said.

As reported, the area of greenhouses in the region is 189 hectares. According to the results of implementation of several investment projects are planned to increase this amount to 253 hectares in 2018. By the end of 2017 Stavropol region took the second place in production of greenhouse vegetables in Russia.

The growth of grain production in the region for five years was 44% to 10.2 million tonnes in 2017, farmers produced 47% more sugar beet (2.2 million tonnes), 23% production increased fruit production (up to 67.4 tons).
