This decision was made in connection with a significant increase in the supply of tomatoes from Armenia to Russia in the absence of full information on production volumes and the name of the tomato producers, as well as reliable information about the country of origin of products, the report said.
Earlier, in October last year, it was reported that the Rosselkhoznadzor proposes to the Federal customs service of the Russian Federation to carry out the inspection of consignments of tomatoes that fall to Russia from Azerbaijan and Armenia through a number of checkpoints in the North Caucasus, with their full unloading from vehicles.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly pointed out that the tomatoes from Turkey are continuing illegally to get into Russia by re-export, in particular, from Belarus, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Russia introduced an embargo on the supply of Turkey a number of products from 1 January 2016 in response to the attack on the Turkish air force Russian su-24 in Syria at the end of November 2015. In the fall of 2016 limits consistently starred, however, a ban on the supply of tomatoes, one of the most important for Turkish goods remained until November 2017.
