Temporary restrictions on deliveries to Russia of agricultural products from Abkhazia, imposed because of the spread of the pest threat will be abolished from April 10, the press service of the Ministry of agriculture.

April 5, the Ministry of agriculture held a meeting under the leadership of the head of Department Alexander Tkachev, which was attended by the heads of sectoral departments and representatives of management bodies of the agroindustrial complex of Abkhazia.

The meeting was also attended by the head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert, who reported on the progress of measures to combat quarantine pests, carried out on the territory of Abkhazia.

The head of the Department of plant, mechanization, chemicalization and plant protection Pyotr Chekmarev reported that "the Abkhaz authorities on the ground in time mobilized troops, organized manual harvesting, chemical treatment, did a great job with the population.

"Collected approximately 10.5 million individuals (pest — ed.) that prevented its spread on the fields and plantations of orchards and vineyards," said Chekmarev.

It is reported that the specialists of the agricultural centre and experts were also conducted outreach with local experts and the population, recommendations on measures to combat the pest, chemical treatment plants and use of pheromone traps.

"The meeting decided in view of the foregoing work to remove the time limit and to open the import of agricultural products from the territory of Abkhazia from April 10, under control of the Rosselkhoznadzor", — stated in the message.

Recall that the Rosselkhoznadzor from the 1st of April, imposed a ban on import of all plant products from Abkhazia due to a brown-marble bug. Restrictions apply including on reusable containers and wood packaging material.

Before that, in early March, has already introduced a ban on the transportation of products to Russia from Abkhazia in baggage and hand baggage because of the detection of this pest.
