Truck drivers have blocked dozens of roads in Brazil to protest against the increase in rates on diesel fuel. As reported on Monday, the TV channel Globo, protests have taken place in at least 18 of the 27 regions of the South American country.

Demonstrations began after the state oil and gas company Petrobras has announced a new price increase for petrol and diesel from Tuesday. Last week, these figures have already been revised upward five times in a row. Petrobras in the situation explain the global rise in energy prices. However, consumers demand lower rates due to the overhaul of the tax code.

Truck drivers stated that they will not stop protests until their demands are met. Most large-scale demonstrations take place in the densely populated são Paulo state, where were closed including highway leading into located in Santos, a major trading port. The protesters set fire to tires in the roadway. On many roads formed many kilometers of traffic jams.

The President of Brazil Michel Temer, convened a meeting with Ministers of the economic block of the government to try to find a solution to the problem.
