Despite the fact that the greatest risk of spreading the virus is a human factor wild boars remains crucial in the transmission of ASF domestic livestock. Previously it was thought that infected pigs can live for up to two weeks, but studies have shown that a growing percentage of animals resistant to disease and capable of carrying the virus over long time. About it said Dr. Tomas Podgursky from the Institute of biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Bialowieza.

"Not fully known why the wild boars infected with ASF, are living longer and longer," says Podgursky. "Animals shot detect antibodies, and, fortunately, such individuals represent a small percentage of the population. But until recently, there were less than 1%, and now a few percent".

Also unknown is the answer to the question, what is the density of the boar population safe and will lead to a spontaneous disappearance of the virus, so it's hard to argue that recommended in Europe density of 0.1 boar per square kilometer will bring the expected effect in the fight against this disease.

Increased hunting of wild boars is recommended, but as still to be seen, it is not fully effective in the fight against African swine fever. The Symposium marked the successful experience of the Czech Republic to eliminate the source of ASF.
