As noted, in the case of this decision, the rates of customs duties on the import of oil from the current 25-40 % may achieve 200% - maximum rates of customs tariff on WTO rules.

According to experts, such a significant increase of import tariffs can be connected with attempts by the Indian government to raise the domestic prices of vegetable oil. In this case, most likely, this increase will be a temporary measure.

Recall that in early February of this year, the Indian government has also raised duties on most imported vegetable oils.
