Chinese future of Ukraine
In the conditions of growing demand on food China seeks to boost own agrarian production. Ukraine is in lead among candidates to become a Chinese granary.

  • A month ago the State Council of China approved new policy for grain production. For the first time production has to fall below consumption norms of China.
  • The new principles will scale down grain production to 550 million tons in 2020, below 602 million tons of the harvest-2013. The Chinese government wants to boost domestic production of meat, vegetables and fruit, and it means creation of workplaces and smaller areas of used lands. Besides, meat import is more expensive, than grain import.
  • Taking into account China's interest to Ukraine, its  companies will apparently want to acquire a share in the capital of Ukrainian grain traders using remained production and transshipment capacities.
  • Sevastopol port is out of the game, but Youzhny, Odessa, Nikolaev, Ilyichevsk, Ochakovo ports continue to operate, and the most part of grain freights are provided by companies with the Ukrainian capital – Kernel, Khleb Investbud, Santrade, Nibulon, Serna. Chinese business will most likely become interested in them.
