Head of Department of safety of food products of the fgbi "VGNKI" Paul metal'nikov and his Deputy Renat Selimov took part in the 66th annual conference of the American society for mass spectrometry. The event was held from 1 to 7 June 2018 in San Diego (CA, USA). Metal'nikov Pavel and Renat Selimov presented at the conference, two poster presentations on the development of methods for the determination of the residual quantities of the polypeptide antibiotics and hydrophilic phycotoxins:

1. Multiresidue Confirmatory Method for the Determination of Polypeptide Antibiotic Residues by HPLC-MS/MS (Pavel Metalnikov, Ilia Batov, Renat Selimov, Irina Goncharova, Alexander Komarov).

2. Development of LC MS/MS method for determination of hydrophilic phycotoxins (Renat Selimov, Pavel Metalnikov, Alexander Komarov, Elizaveta Goncharova).

Conference of the American society of mass spectrometry annual event, which highlights the main achievements of this method of determining substances. New developments in the field of mass spectrometry is especially important in the area of food security — to detect dangerous substances in food products. One of the main objectives of the Department food safety of the fgbi "VGNKI" is the development and introduction of new methods of testing food products in terms of chemical safety.

The conference was attended by scientists with reports on various fundamental and applied areas of mass spectrometry: new instrumentation, physico-chemical processes at the molecular level, new methods of ionization and detection, development and control of medicines, proteomics, molecular imaging tissues and individual cells, food safety, environmental protection.

The fgbi "VGNKI" received useful information from numerous oral and poster presentations and lively discussions on issues of mass spectrometry with the leading scientists in this field. Of particular interest has presented seminars the following manufacturers of mass spectrometry equipment: Waters, Sciex, Agilent, LECO, Thermo Scientific. The workshops discussed the most effective application of mass spectrometry to solve, in particular, the objectives of food security.
