THE FGBI "VGNKI" FOR THE FIRST TIME HELD A UNIQUE TRAINING COURSE ON SPECIES IDENTIFICATION OF FISH MEAT AND MEAT OF OTHER ANIMALS IN FOOD PRODUCTS
At the end of October in the fgbi "VGNKI" has completed a new, unique for Russia course devoted to research on GOST 34106-2017 "Production of food and raw materials. Method of sequencing of the mitochondrial genome of animals and fish for species identification in single-component products". The course is designed and conducted by staff of the molecular biology Department of the fgbi "VGNKI", headed by the head of the Department Ekaterina Davydova.

The researchers of the fgbi "VGNKI" has developed a method for species identification of meat from animals and fish in the one-component food product (e.g. fish fillet). The method makes it possible to determine the species of meat of commercial fish, mammals and reptiles a wide range of species. Based on this methodology developed by GOST 34106-2017. In the fall of 2018 in the fgbi "VGNKI" developed a training course for research in the framework of this standard.

In training to be the first thread of the new course was attended by specialists from the fgbi CNPSL, fsbi "Rostov reference center of the Rosselkhoznadzor" and Innovation center "Biryuch-NT".

Under the guidance of the scientific staff of the molecular biology Department of the fgbi "VGNKI" students completed practical exercises during which it was mastered: the selection and preparation of samples meat and fish products for species identification of animals; extraction and purification of DNA from the test material; the amplification of a fragment of the mitochondrial genome; detection of PCR products by electrophoresis in agarose gel and profitability analysis; purification of PCR products by enzymatic method; sequencing of the amplified DNA fragments; determining the nucleotide sequence by capillary electrophoresis on an automated genetic analyzer ABI Prism 3130.

After a practical training workshop on interpretation of laboratory test results. During the workshop, teachers discussed with students the quality control of sequencing and the particular implementation developed by the fgbi "VGNKI" methods of species identification of meat from animals in single-component products in laboratory practice. Teachers also spoke about the importance of properly selected reagents and consumables for qualitative performance of work under GOST 34106-2017.

The results of the audit practical exercises the course participants received certificates of professional development standard pattern.
