In Novosibirsk Akademgorodok began the work of V international scientific conference "Genetics, genomics, bioinformatics and biotechnology of plants" — PlantGen2019.

The event was visited by 292 participants from 19 countries. This year extra attention is paid to the application direction of the conference for the first time organized a workshop for breeders, writes portal "Science in Siberia".

"According to the Federal scientific-technical program of development of genetic technologies in agricultural genetics is one of the priorities of development of science in Russia. PlantGen2019 a platform for interaction not only Russian researchers, but also representatives of States and foreign countries. With the latest our country to a large extent common breeding Fund, scientific school. The conference takes place as exchange of modern knowledge and achievements in the field of genetics of plant development, control of signs of productivity, resistance to pathogens, and the organization of joint projects, including in the field of breeding programs," said FIC Director of the "Institute of Cytology and genetics, Russian Academy of Sciences" the corresponding member of RAS Alexey V. Kochetov.

Member of conference program Committee, Vice-President of the European Association for research on plant breeding, head of the German genetic Bank Gatersleben (Gatersleben) Andreas Berner noted that cooperates with the ICG SB RAS in the field of research of plant genetics since 2000.

"The main goal of our joint work on the search of loci for disease resistance in the genome of plants and transfer of these properties in modern varieties," — said the scientist.

Andreas Berner also noted that the agricultural fields are planted today, only 3-4 different varieties of cereals. They have high productivity, but low biodiversity increases the risk of plant diseases and, as a result, complete destruction of crops.

"For this and the necessary biobanks seeds in them, we will be able to find plant material with characteristics of resistance to diseases. Also genetic diversity is needed to create new agricultural cereal species in the future, because in nature is not found plant material stored in the collections," commented Berner.

The German scientist said that the Biobank Gatersleben contains 150 000 seed samples of cultivated cereals, and it is only half of the quantity of similar material, which is stored in the world's oldest seed Bank FITZ "all-Russian Institute of plant genetic resources named after N. And. Vavilov".

Scientific topics of the conference PlantGen2019 includes five main and three parallel sections, work on which will last for four days.
